Heavy Rotation

Degenerate Art Ensemble – The Bastress
Avante Garde Pop collective with aspects of FreeJazz and SpazzPop. Recommended if you like Deerhoof, 00100. Play 2, 4, 6, 8.

Mi and L’au – selftitled
Slightly Eerie and intense male/female Folk duo that fits in on Young GodRecords. Play 3, 1, 11, 5 or 10 if you like Azure Ray, Lovers, or Jarboe.

Death From Above 1979 – Romance Bloody Romance: Remixes & B-Sides
Edgy Dance Punk remixed, suffers from too many people remixing the same song. Similar to Neon Blonde, Blood Brothers, or Red Light Sting. Highlights include remixes by Justice ((2) Alan Braxe & Fred Flake (4) and Final Fantasy (12) and the B-Side version of Little Girl (5).

Interpol – Remix DPRO
Taken from the 4X12” “Interpol Remix” Try 2, 3, or 4.

Azalia Snail – Avec Amour
Wall of Sound Pop that is droney and hypnotic but keeps you interested with each new track. Fans of Blonde Redhead, Olivia Tremor Control or Beck should try 4, 7, 11, 3 or 1 and go from there.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah – s/t
Pitchfork Media gushed all over this Brooklyn 5 Piece, Buchmeyer however did not. Perhaps it was the over production. Similar to Talking Heads or The Feelies you can see for yourself with 6, 2, 5, 8 or 12.

Hudson Bell – When The Sun Is The Moon
Neo-Psychadelic Indie Pop/Rock with lots of fuzz pedal and a definite west coast feel. If you like Modest Mouse, Pavement, Tripping Daisy, Elf Power or Dios Malos then give 1, 2, 5 or 6 a try.

Summer Lawns – First We Waited, Then It Started
Slow/Sad chamberpop quartet from NYC with the almost all too common Thom Yorke-esque vocalist. Interesting takes on the traditional “This little Light of Mine” and Joy Division’s “Transmission” are among the highlights on this album. Like Thom Yorke fronting Low, The National, thedeadscience, Xiu Xiu, Red House Painters or His Name Is Alive. Start with 1, 6, 2, 5 or 8 and go from there.

The Vacancies – A Beat Missing Or A Silence Added
Poignant Pop-Punk produced by Kenny Laguna and Joan Jett for her Blackheart label.
Fans of Rancid, Guttermouth or Good Riddance should give this a chance and play 5, 10, 3, 1 or 14.

Local

The Nadas – Listen Through Static
The Nadas have had success in the Adult Album Alternative (AAA) radio format with their rather inoffensive, unthreatening roots rock. Based in Ames/Des Moines if you didn’t know already. Fans of John Mellencamp, Gin Blossoms, Paul Westerburg or Star 102.5. Try 1, 2, 11 or 6.

Quiet Bears – Creatures
If you listen to Iron&Wine, Smog, or Simon Joyner then give this Quad Cities band a listen. Dark guitar based Folk with ex-members of Romantic & the Sirens. Play 6, 1, 2, 4.

Hold For Swank -- It's Like a Jungle Gym Sometimes
Emo Pop Punk in the vain of Ultimate Fakebook, Weezer, Get Up Kids, or Green Day from somewhere in Iowa (I tried to narrow it down with no luck). Play 1, 3 or 2.

General

Nous Non Plus -- …Nous Non Plus
Dreamy Pop Reminiscent of French Pop from the 60’s similar to American Analog Set, Pedro the Lion, or Anna Karina. Try 5, 2, 1 or 4.

Crimson Sweet – Eat The Night
Nothing but amps to ten, balls out rock songs about bad relationships and wreckless living. For fans of Iggy Pop & the Stooges, Ramones, Disstilers. Play 3, 7 10, 4.[/u]
