Dead Week adds!
Heavy Rotation
The Fiery Furnaces -- Bitter Tea
Planned as a youthful companion to 05's "Rehearsing My Choir" this harkens back to the catchiness of EP but is not as experimental as "Blueberry Boat" but definetly odd enough to be The Fiery Furnaces. Start with 4, 6, 2, 5, 8 or 10.
Elf Power -- Back to the Web
After releasing some less than awe inspiring albums, Elf Power returns with a darker album that gains back some forward momentum. You've gotta love the E6! RIYL: Essex Green, Beulah, Arcade Fire, Olivia Tremor Control. Try 6, 1, 2, 4, or 8 and go from there.
The Concretes -- In Colour
Female fronted Pop from Sweden! Not a stand-out Concretes album, but you can't help but feel good listening to it. Play 1, 8, 12, 4 or 3 if you enjoy Heiiki, The Owls, Rilo Kiley or The Shout Out Louds.
Sunset Rubdown -- Shut Up I Am Dreaming
Featuring the warbly vocalist of Wolf Parade, Sunset Rubdown is more atmospheric and subtle than Wolf Parade but still interesting. Play 1, 2, 10, 7 or 5 if you like Arcade Fire, Destroyer or Frog Eyes.
The Little Ones -- Sing Song EP
Energetic feel good pop for fans of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah or The Shins. Give 2, 5 or 1 a listen.
Voxtrot -- Mothers, Sisters, Daughters & Wives EP.
The second EP from this energic and dancy indie pop/rock act out of Austin, Texas. I deem this Cousin Carl indiepop! Like New Pornographers, Sons&Daughters or Broken Social Scene but without the estrogen. Try 3, 4, 5 or 1.
Brief Candles -- They Live We Sleep
Shoegazer pop with swirling guitars and moaning vocals for those who miss My Bloody Valentine, or fans of Azalia Snail. Play 1, 6, or 2.
Partisian -- The {gothic} and the Gospel
With Post-Punk agressiveness and afrobeats, this Partisian album can get boring after awhile but is good in small doses. Try 11, 7, 10, 14 or 8 (a cyndi lauper cover) if you enjoy The Make-Up, The orphans, or The Jai-Ali-Savant.
Don Caballero -- World Class Listening Problem
Don Caballero Returns?! (or as Battles fans will refer to this: Non Caballero) This album seems more agressive and louder than their others, a glance at them being on Relapse might have been a clue. Otherwise a solid math rock album you would expect from Piglet, Maserati or A Minor Forest. Start with 1, 9, 2, 4, or 7.
The Court & Spark -- Hearts
Dark and wistful American / Old-soul Country. Mellow instrumentals mixed with ragged vocals to make a rahter sad, haunting album. Try 5, 1, 3, 9 or the instrumentals at 4 and 8. For fans of Calexico, Magnolia Electric Co., Low, Lambchop.
Ms. John Soda -- Notes and the Like
German Electro-indie-pop from Morr Music. Recommended if you like Lali Puna, Annie, The No-Twist, Ladytron, Miss Kitten and even Sonic Youth. Play 3, 5, 2, 4 or 7.
BestOf/Reissue
Frog Eyes -- A Picture of UnCalculated Proportions
Collection of songs from Frog Eyes 4 releases. Crazy/Weird pop with moany lyrics but an over-all likeability. Play 1, 9, 6 or 13 if you enjoy Violent Femmes, Wolf Parade, Birthday Party or Television.
General
be your own PET -- Summer Sensation
Sassy Female Fronted Rock for fans of The Gossip, Tracy & the plastics. Play 2, 3 or 5.
The Knights of the New Crusade -- A Challenge to the cowards of Christiandom
Upbeat Rock and Punk songs with a positive christian message. Not really sure if this is a joke, but there are lots of 'skits'. Play 2, 12, 11, 7 or 8 if you like Old Scratch Revival Singers, Butthole Surfers.
Volumen -- Science Fraction
Out of Montana comes punk rock crossed with new-wave electronica mixed with tons of sci-fi themes and imagery. Nerd rock at its weirdest. Try 13, 5, 10, 8 or 3.
Just A Fire -- Spanish Time
Rock and Roll that is reminiscent of the 90's post-grunge of Dinosaur Jr. Noisey and Loud but listenable and catchy. Try 2, 8, 6 or 1.
Blues Jazz World
Groove Collective -- People People Music Music
Ranges from Jazz ( 1, 4, 6, 8, 13) to Latin jazz (5, 7) to afrojazz (2, 9). RIYL: Erik Truffaz, Fela Kuti, Manu Dibango, Medeski Martin and Wood.
RPM
Omar Star -- Mulatos Remix
Groovy, Jazzy, Loungey, laid back electro for fans of St. Germain, Mocean Worker, Dimitri from Paris, Robert Miles. Play 1, 10, 2 or 5.
Loud Rock
Invaders
Compilation featuring some of the heaviest stoner rock and math-metal artists out there today. Including tracks from Torche (9), Big Business (3) Danava (2) Witch (7) Dungen (6) The F**king Champs (8) Pelican (10) and others.
Dysrhythmia -- Barriers and Passages
Jazz infused metal instrumentals for fans of Explosions in the Sky, Godspeed! You Black Emporer, Pelican or Non Caballero. Play 2, 3, 5 or 6.
Gadget -- The Funeral March
Death/Grind with more of a focus on Death. A Lot of catchy riffs with blasts at weird times. If you like Pig Destroyer and Nasum then play 3, 4, 5, 6 or 8.
