I like to pretend that people will play these records....

Heavy Rotation

Electric Six -- Senor Smoke
Detroit tounge-in-cheek electro-sex-rawk! Fans of the Eagles of Death Metal, Mooney Suzuki, or Felix da Housecat should try 6, 1, 4 or the Queen cover at 13.

NOFX -- Never A Trust a Hippy
Servo actually returns a NOFX CD two days after he took it, and there is even the semblence of a review! Two tracks from the forthcoming Wolves in Wolves' Clothing album (that will probably be lost in Servo's Car) and some extra stuff. Play 1, 3, 5, or 6 if you like Bad Religion, NOFX, like I need to tell you?

Neko Case -- Fox Confessor Brings the Flood
Well produced country album by one of the members of The New Pornographers. Neko has an amazing voice, and these songs prove that good country music can still be made. Play 3, 1, 7 or 8 if you like Loretta Lynn, Tanya Donelly, Eleni Mandell, or Nina Nastasia.

The Plastic Constellations -- Crusades
Former KUREfest headliners from the Twin Cities return with another good CD. Try 1, 2, 6 or 5 if you like PlasCon, Les Savy Fav, D-Plan or maybe a hiphop Sonic Youth.

Polysics -- Now is the Time!
Devo obsessed Japanese Spazz band!!! Try 1, 2, 6, 11, 14 etc. if you like Pizicato Five, Zoo Bombs, 7inch Wave or of course... DEVO!

Electric President -- s/t
Bedroom Electro-pop typical of the Morr Music label. This duo from Jacksonville Beach, Florida should appeal to fans of Styrofoam, Postal Service or the NoTwist. Play 2, 3, 7 or 4.

the M's -- Future Woman
Chicago Rock-Pop duo that is heavy on the Guitars. Play 1, 8, 6, or 10 if you dig The Walkmen or French Kicks.

Harvestman -- Lashing the Rye
Brooding instrumentals that use traditional European folk instruments. Storm the Castle and battle the orc army to the tune of Steve Von Till's latest project. Fans of Dirty Three, Avarus, or the Lord of the Rings should try 5, 2, 4 or 10.

Arctic Monkeys -- Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I Am
Aggressive, Smarmy British Garage Punk rock and f'ing roll. They be NME darlings! Play 2, 6, 1, 13, or 10 if you like Beautiful Newborn Children, Kaiser Chiefs, Libertines, The Jam etc.
**The radio edit for "When the Sun Goes Down" is on the EP that is moving to the General New section.

Goldfrapp -- Supernature
New Wave influenced dance music with volatile beats to complement the sesual, angelicly devious vocals of Allison Goldfrapp. The sound is similar to the Black Cherry album and is soooo good. Madonna's Confessions on a Dance Floor wants to be this record. Like Metric, or Portishead hijacked by The Faint, or maybe Blondie meets Annie. Play anything off this album, but start with 11, 2, 1, 4 or 6.

General

ex-boyfriends -- dear john
Up-beat pop-punk from San Francisco makes the teenagers dance. Play 1, 9, 6, or 4 if you like The Cars, Alkaline Trio, or Weezer.

The Loved Ones -- Keep Your Heart
Gruff yet catchy skate-punk from Philly. Sounds like a poppier version of Lawrence Arms, or maybe Face to Face, Home Grown etc. Play 1, 6, 13, 8.

Action Action -- An Army of Shapes Between Wars
Synth-Pop Dance Rock with an '80's feel. If you like Head Autoica, The Faint, or Intro5ect then play 11, 1 or 10.

Tristeza -- A Colores
Electronic-y instrumental psychadelic post rock makes good background music. Try 3 or 9 if you enjoy Tortoise, Mouse on Mars or Explosions in the Sky.

Tribes of Neurot -- Meridian
Neurosis side project that is subtle and atmospheric while remaining intense. Fans of Tangerine Dream, Khanate or Flying Saucer Attack. Play 2, 9, 4 or 6.

Local

grogshow -- s/t
Futureappletree Records out of Davenport releases this laid back indie pop that sounds like something that could have passed for an early Modest Mouse song. Dubuque native Marc Kisting died in 1996 after a long battle with leukemia, leaving this recording made in 1995 behind. Play 3, 1, or 7 if you enjoy Built to Spill or Modest Mouse.

Blues, Jazz, World...

Eccentric Soul: The Deep City Label
Northern soul comp of artists on the Deep City label, for fans of James Brown, The Supremes, Marvin Gaye etc. Includes cuts from Helene Smith (3, 9 & 13), Them Two (1), Paul Kelly (10) and Freda Gray & the Rocketeers (5).

RPM

Run the Road Volume 2
Part Two of the successful Grime Comp series, if you like Dizzee Rascall, the Streets or lady Soverign than play the clean tracks on here starting with Kano and Deep Low (1) or Doctor and Davinche (2)

Loud Rock

Drawn and Quartered -- Hail Infernal Darkness
Death metal with some odd time signatures. Decent Death metal with Fast Guitars for fans of Immolation or Adramelech. Play 6, 1, 2, 4.

Akimbo -- Forging Steel and Laying Stone
Doomy! Sludgy! Southern Hardcorish! Louisville!!! no, Seattle!?! If you like Colisium or Black Cross then play 2, 3, or 5.

Bloodsimple -- Sell me Out (single)
Members of Vision of Disorder return to Metalcore with a great sound. RIYL: V.O.D. or Deftones.

Remembering Never -- God Save Us
South Florida Metalcore with a socio-political agenda. Expect lots of Melody, Singing and Screaming. If you can't get enough Most Precious Blood or Throwdown then try 1, 3, 6 or 14 from this.

The Sword -- Age of Winters
An hmage to early metal that will keep you pumping your fist. Play 2, 3, 5, or 7 if you enjoy Black Sabbath, Dead Meadow or High on Fire. Very good stuff.
